How does WikiVotr work?

WikiVotr is a place to find and share great Wikipedia articles with others. Whenever you see an article you like, vote for it by clicking the "Vote" link to the left of each article. When articles are first submitted, they appear in the Upcoming section. Articles with enough votes are automatically promoted to the Popular section on the front page where you can typically find some great articles. To add your own Wikipedia articles, copy the URL of the article into the "Submit an Article" page. Don't forget to leave comments and start discussions!

What's the best way to use WikiVotr?

That depends. If you like discussing articles with the WikiVotr community, it's best to browse the "Upcoming" section for newly added articles. Once you read or submit an article, leave a comment to engage in a discussion about the article. It is often easiest to jump into a discussion earlier than later, so commenting on Upcoming articles is a great way to engage in discussions.

If you like to find articles that the WikiVotr community has already made popular, browse the "Popular" section on the home page. Also, the "Top Today" articles in the right sidebar are always a great place to find excellent articles.

Also, don't forget to check the "New Articles" section frequently for interesting new Wikipedia entries that you can submit to WikiVotr!

Should I always leave a comment each time I submit an article?

Absolutely! Half the point of using WikiVotr is to discuss articles that interest you with other people that are also interested in that article. Ideally, you should comment on every article you vote on. If you don't leave comments or check back for replies after commenting, you're missing out on what really makes WikiVotr great! Be sure to check back frequently for new comments to keep the discussion going.

How can I easily find out how many new comments have been made after my last comment?

Easy! Just go to your Profile and click on the "Commented" tab to list the articles you've commented on. If any new comments have been made since your last comment on a particular article, you will see a caption near the title of the article displaying the number of new comments since your last comment!

How can I tell if any of my friends have voted for an article?

Just look for the friend icon in the top-left corner of the voting box to the left of each article. When a friend has voted for an article, hover your mouse over the number of votes and a caption will appear listing which of your friends voted for that article.

What is a Tag Cloud and how does it work?

A "tag cloud" is a visual depiction of the number of times a particular "tag" has been used to describe an article. Tags are words that describe the specific content of an article, and each article should have one or more tags associated with it. A tag cloud basically shows a list of recently submitted tags, and their frequency is indicated by the size of the tag: the larger the tag the more frequent it has been used. Tags are also a great way to search for specific topics by clicking on a tag. When submitting an article, be sure to submit relevant tags for each article separated by commas. (ie- internet, blogs, books)

What's the easiest way to submit articles to WikiVotr when I browse Wikipedia?

Currently, the easiest way to submit an article is to save this bookmarklet to your browser by right-clicking on it and adding it to your bookmarks. Once you've done that, the only thing you have to do to submit an article is to click the bookmarklet in your bookmarks when visiting a Wikipedia article that you'd like to submit. In the future, we will create browser extensions to easily submit articles to WikiVotr.

What are "Comment Ratings" for?

If you like someone's comment, rate it positively by using the plus (+) sign, otherwise use the minus (-) sign to rate it negatively. This feature burys lame comments and/or spam so you don't have to look at it and encourages thoughtful comments from members.
