As an avid Wikipedia user himself, WikiVotr founder Grant Bartone wanted to create a website where Wikipedia users could come to discuss interesting Wikipedia articles and also discover new articles that others though were interesting. Grant is also a fan of the social bookmarking site Digg, and thought that a similar voting system would be the best way to easily find Wikipedia articles based on popularity.
Grant was also inspired by the ever expanding list of Wikipedia's new articles, which are often on the cutting edge of new human knowledge (and other times completely ridiculous). He wanted to show these articles to the world, so he made it a priority to automatically feed these new articles into WikiVotr in an effort to popularize new knowledge and to help spur the continuous exponential expansion of human knowledge via Wikipedia.
